The Midyear Meeting of The Florida Bar will be at the Miami Hyatt Regency, Jan. 14-17, and will include section and committee meetings and CLE seminars, a lawyer's marketplace and a Friday morning symposium on state court funding.

Committee Appointments
Each year the President-Elect of The Florida Bar appoints interested bar members to serve on standing committees. The committee preference form is posted online from December 1 to January 16. All appointments begin July 1 of each year.

Judicial Vacancies

• The Florida Supreme Court JNC announces a call for a broad and well-qualified pool of applicants to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Charles T. Wells. The submission deadline is Jan. 20.
• Applications for the Seventeenth Judicial County Court must be received before 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19.
• Applications to fill the vacancy on the Fourth District Court of Appeal created by the resignation of Judge Larry Klein are due no later than 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Limited Appearance Updates

• Effective January 1, 2009, out-of-state attorneys wishing to appear pro hac vice must use the new form adopted by the Supreme Court of Florida.
• The Supreme Court of Florida adopted amendments to rule 1-3.11 of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar which affect the content of the verified statement that must be sent to The Florida Bar when an out-of-state attorney wishes to appear in an arbitration proceeding pending in Florida.
